Program

Classes

The classes take place at Rainbow Dance Factory (Im Hofstrütle 1, 72074 Tübingen).

Due to the lack of food options in the immediate vicinity of the Rainbow Dance Factory, we plan to order food for the lunch break. There will be an email with further information before the workshop. We will also provide a small selection of drinks and snacks.

• Lindy Intermediate

  • For this course you should know the most important basic figures and some variations.
  • The level is comparable to level 2-3 of the university sports program in Tübingen.

• Lindy Advanced

  • You have been dancing Lindy Hop for 2 or more years and you also feel comfortable with faster music. Then that's the right level for you.
  • The level is comparable to level 3-4 of the university sports program in Tübingen.

• Followers in Swing

  • What does it mean to be a follower in swing dance? We look at Follower techniques and flow in familiar basic moves, as well as classic styling and variations. We get inspiration from famous Followers of the swing history. “Your swivels are your signature” – Frankie Manning.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate and above

• Leaders in Swing

  • What does it mean to be a Leader in swing dance? We get inspration from famous Leaders of the swing history and look at cool footwork variations. You will learn some tips and tricks to stay in the flow and to interact better with the Follower. If you've always wanted to delve deep into the science of Leading, then this class is for you.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate and above

• Fly high and get low - Lindy Aerials

  • Let’s go upside down and get into the air. This course is aimed at anyone who has always wanted to try aerials. Registration as a couple is mandatory - there will be no partner changes.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate/Advanced

• Vintage Clips

  • Let's take a look at the first Lindy Hop and jazz moves and get inspired by documentaries like "Spirit Moves" and other vintage clips like "A Day at the Races" or "Radio City Revels".
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate and above

• Fast Lindy

  • Do you want to be able to dance relaxed on socials when a really fast song is playing? Then this is the perfect class for you! Join us on a journey into the world of fast dancing. We'll teach you techniques that will make it easy for you to have fun on the dance floor, no matter the pace.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate/Advanced

• Classic Frankie Manning Rhythms

  • We focus on some classic rhythms that Frankie Manning loved to dance to, while highlighting the values he stood for. This class comes straight from the hearts of our teachers and is a sincere tribute to his legacy.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate and above

• Musicality

  • In this class we will actively engage with the music that moves us while dancing. We will listen carefully, embody different instruments, explore the structure of music, and learn how to connect with the music and merge with our partner. This class will take place together with the great band "Gramophoniacs".
  • Level-Empfehlung: für alle Level geeignet

• Slides and Spins

  • In addition to Heel Slide, Backslide, Single Spin and Double Spin, we will try out other slides and spins. Fun is guaranteed. This is both a solo and partner course. Some parts will focus on practicing solo techniques, while others will involve dancing with a partner. Important: It is best to bring shoes with leather soles (front and back) or socks that can be worn over the shoes.
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate/Advanced

• Dips and Endings

  • What to do when a song ends? In this class we will go through a whole series of moves that lead to a perfect finish. From a simple dip to a complex twist to a beautiful finishing pose - we've got it all!
  • Level recommendation: Intermediate and above

• Solo Jazz

  • Let's get jazzy! Of course, solo jazz shouldn't be missed either. This course is suitable for all levels!
  • Level recommendation: suitable for all levels

• Tap Taster

  • A class to expand your horizons! Hazelle gives you an introduction to tap dancing and lets your body become music.
  • Level recommendation: suitable for all levels

Bands

Apollo 72

Apollo 72 emerged from the Tübingen Lindy Hop scene and unites musicians who share a passion for swing and hot jazz from the 1920s to the 1940s. Their large repertoire consists of this music and includes evergreens as well as surprises! Whether long or short—their program is guaranteed to be danceable!

Gramophoniacs

The band Gramophoniacs, founded by music students from the Saar University of Music, is dedicated to old traditional swing music. In different line-ups from quartets to septets, the young musicians bring thrilling music to the stage, street or ballroom. In authentic outfits, they ensure the unforgettable flair of the time - a real experience for every listener and viewer!

Gramophoniacs are: tapping feet, nodding heads - wicked clubs and bars and shimmering halls - quiet tones and loud grooves - other times, in the here and now - a band of musicians who live for swing in all its facets!

Don't miss!: Together with the teaching team, as one of the "Saarbrücken house bands", they develop an incomparable Musicality class before the Spätzle-Hop party on Saturday.

In recent years the parties have always been booked up quickly, so we have not been able to offer an evening box office. If there is a box office, this will be announced here.

Pricing

After working with a price tier (small purse/cost cover/supporter) in recent years, we would now like to test a new concept. Therefore, we've agreed to offer the classes and parties at a “small purse” price and so in a relatively cheap price level in comparison to regional and international workshops.

If you would still like to support our charitable work and thus help SwingZeit to organize events in and around Tübingen, you are welcome to add a donation amount of your choice to your booking. Alternatively, you can also find our “Spendenkässle” at all of our events.

Likewise, there are sometimes phases in life when you are just a little short on money. So if your wallet is smaller than your appetite for classes and parties, just get in touch with us. Together we will try to find a solution.

Registration

Registration starts on December 1st, 2024 at 6pm!

General information about the registration:

• Bookings of workshops with a party ticket are preferred! The remaining party tickets will be allocated based on availability and in the order in which registration is received.
• When registering, please make sure not to book classes that are taking place at the same time.
• For the "Aerials" class you need a permanent dance partner, who must be named when registering.
• We are a non-profit organization and plan events in Tübingen in addition to our full-time jobs. Therefore, unfortunately we cannot always answer all inquiries directly.
• At the end of registration you will receive a confirmation of receipt. You will receive the final booking confirmation and payment request in a separate email.
• Participation is only secured once your transfer has been received. Otherwise we reserve the right to pass on your ticket to people on the waiting list.
